City Bounce Back from Champions League Disappointment
Bernardo Silva's late strike against Chelsea has kept Manchester City's hopes of a domestic double alive after the disappointment of their Champions League exit.
City had suffered a dispiriting 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday, but they responded with a gritty performance at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Silva, who had missed a crucial penalty in the midweek loss, made amends in style with a superb finish in the 90th minute.
The Portuguese winger's goal secured a 1-0 victory for City, who will now face Liverpool in the FA Cup final on May 28.
"It was a great moment for me and for the team," said Silva. "We wanted to win this game and get back on track after the disappointment of Wednesday.
"We knew it would be tough against Chelsea, but we showed great character and determination to get the win."
City manager Pep Guardiola was delighted with his team's performance, saying: "We played with great intensity and desire. We created a lot of chances and deserved to win.
"This win is a big boost for us. It gives us confidence for the rest of the season and shows that we are still fighting for everything."
